Magnolia

I realized I had forgotten everything,
I had forgotten
my dirty fingernails and your healthy habits-
I just needed a few days to settle in.
So, we drank our coffee that morning trying not to think about all of the things we didn't do and couldn't say.

Within the tunnels of the steel colored office buildings,
you talked to purple bellied pigeons, trying to tame them, I assume.
You bent toward them and twirled your hands-using your fingers to translate.
You used your soothing voice and smiled, patiently.
They just squawked at you.

I waited for the light to turn.

I slid my ring off my swollen index finger and placed it on the honey-colored floor.
It sparkled from where I stood.
I wished you would come visit me here. It would make me more comfortable.
